Decade beginning 1960

Paintings

“These paintings were inspired by my travels in Spain in 63-64. A grant from the Belgian Government enabled me to study and paint them without constraint in Brussels the year after. And that series was to evolve and progress till late 70’s.”

~ Jacques Charoux 1979/80

“By contrast, Charoux’ work has a greater self-sufficiency. His forms are not, however tentatively, paradigms of nature, although, like any other man-made commodity, they can hardly avoid reflecting it. However in the last analysis, they evoke a compressed, contemplative intensity and are much more than visual exercises of aesthetic games.”
